Balaji Rengarajan joined NID in June 2011. He teaches automotive design/styling, representation, and modeling techniques. He focuses on training students in sophisticated 2D and 3D skills to make the students globally competitive.

After he graduated as an automobile engineer in 1994, Balaji joined Bajaj Auto Ltd., Pune and worked as an R&D Engineer till 2002. He earned his master’s degree in Automotive Design from Coventry University, UK in 2004 and subsequently worked as an industrial designer at TATA Motors Design Studio in Pune and later with Revolution Motors, a California-based electric vehicle company. To add value to his experience, he started teaching Industrial/Automotive design at ITESM, Campus Monterrey, Mexico and simultaneously began
his relationship with NID as a visiting faculty, in 2009. He has actively participated in design seminars at IIT Bombay and ITESM, Mexico and has guided students at ITESM to win the GM-PACE HMI for CADILLAC Design Challenge-2009, at the global level. Balaji also
headed a team of international participants for the INTERDESIGN-2009 (a design workshop organised by ICSID) at Monterrey Mexico that proposed transport design solutions.

Balaji is an avid photographer and is interested in graphic design and fine arts.
