The Furniture and Interior Design discipline at NID looks at living, working and interaction environments through the study of objects, structures and systems operating at the human scale. The programme addresses issues of sustainability and environmental concerns through in-depth studies of materials, processes and aesthetics.
The graduate programme emphasizes on development of strong material, technical, aesthetic and empirical skills as well as the conceptualization and design development skills. The discipline instils a strong hands-on approach along with a thorough understanding and application of user-centric studies, resource-material engagement, critical thinking and problem-solving capacities. The post-graduate programme places well-researched studio practice at its core by enabling an informed interdisciplinary negotiation between needs, constraints and applications. Students seek to combine factors like materials and their environmental impact and fabrication and production understanding to identify new design practices and opportunities to address changes and demographic shifts of the 21st century.

The discipline of Furniture and Interior Design at NID looks at shaping and functional analysis of living, working and interaction environments through study and development of objects, structures and systems operating on human scale responding to their collective impact on everyday life. The program addresses concurrent issues of sustainability and human relationships with resource and environmental concerns by taking up in-depth study of materials, techniques, processes, aesthetics, projections and resonance of a product in its social context. The discipline capacitates to build technical, pragmatic and research skills to perform in practice-oriented industries as well as engage with new emerging models of design practices. The program enables integral control through research over definition and design of furniture-interior objects and make them respond to seemingly distant but crucial requirements of contextual and environmental design through systems perspective.
B.Des
The B.Des (undergraduate) program emphasises on development of strong material, technical, aesthetic and empirical skills crucial for delivering experiences and stories of human participation with objects and environment. The program helps building conceptualisation and development skills through detailed material study, hand-digital drawings and physical modelling.To provide context to studio-practice as well as industrial operations, the discipline operates on a strong hands-on prototyping component based on thorough understanding and application of user centric study, resource-material engagement, critical thinking and problem-solving capacities.
